Increasing public health with reducing budgets

Event:  Increasing Public Health with reducint budget: how evidence can help
Date: 10th March 2015
Venue: Local Government House, Smith Square, London SW1P 3HZ

This one-day conference, organised by the LGA in collaboration with NICE and the UCL Centre for Behaviour Change, will look at how evidence can support decision-making in public health to help local authorities meet the challenge of providing for public health within limited budgets. In the current climate of limited resources in local government, it is more important than ever to spend wisely on public health provision. Without investment in public health now, there is the danger of increasing pressure on services and rising health inequalities in the coming years. Identifying and understanding what has been effective elsewhere can help with planning and provision to meet local needs and priorities.

Confirmed speakers include:

  • Professor Kevin Fenton, Director of Health and Wellbeing, Public Health England
  • Professor Susan Michie, Director, UCL Centre for Behaviour Change
  • Professor Mike Kelly, Director, Centre for Public Health, National Institute for Health and Care Excellence
  • Cllr Jonathan McShane, Cabinet Member for Health, Social Care & Culture, London Borough of Hackney and LGA Community Wellbeing Board member (chair)
