The following websites contain a lot of general information about education and training opportunities open to a wide variety of learners (including those from outside the UK). They will give you helpful information about qualifications, training and potential sources of funding.


Education and Learning (UK) 
This is a section on the UK government’s website (Directgov) with information on options for 14-19 year-olds, adult learning, university and higher education, qualifications, and financial support. 

Education UK
A British Council website with advice on study options, scholarships and funding for international students. The British Council delivers hundreds of projects in the areas of education, arts, science, sport and governance. Its projects reach over 112 million people a year in the UK and around the world.  

Department for Employment and Learning Northern Ireland
Information about finding employment, further and higher education, skills and training, and funding support. 

NIDirect Government Services - Education and Learning 
NIDirect is the official government website for Northern Ireland citizens.

Scotland
Education and Training
Information on universities and colleges, lifelong learning, work-based training, and funding and support. 

Welsh Assembly Government - Education and skills  
These pages include information for learners under 16, over 16 and in Continuing Education, Learning Pathways for 14-19 year-olds, the Welsh Baccalaureate, and career paths for professionals.

Faculty of Public Health 
The Faculty of Public Health training pages provide information and guidance for those considering a career in public health. This includes all relevant information on specialty training in public health, for those considering applying as well as those who have been accepted onto, or are already in specialty training.

RSPH (Royal Society of Public Health) Training Solutions
RSPH Training Solutions consists of a broad series of short introductory topics delivered as one-day training events. They are designed for personal or professional development and to enhance managerial skills. These courses offer an accessible way for those involved in all sectors of public health to update their skills and broaden their knowledge in the essential areas of health, wellbeing and communication.

Lead the Way: NHS Leadership programmes

Core Learning Unit
The CLU has developed a range of e-learning and face to face learning programmes which cater for certain learning needs of Health and Care staff. The e-learning programmes are designed to be accessed via the NHS CLUs Managed Learning Environment. The CLU has a programme in Public Health.

Choose and Book Training
A comprehensive range of training materials and tools that have been developed to help the NHS to understand and use Choose and Book (a national electronic referral service which gives patients a choice of place, date and time for their first outpatient appointment in a hospital or clinic).

Bridging the gap (Scotland)  
A health inequalities online learning resource aimed mainly at pre-registration nurses, midwives and allied health professionals (NMAHPs). The resource is also of relevance to all those who mentor, teach, train, supervise and support students.

Medact
Medact is a global health charity tackling issues at the centre of international policy debates. Led by its health professional membership it undertakes education, research and advocacy on the health implications of conflict, development and environmental change. Medact provides a selection of on-line training packages.

Virtual College
The NHS Series of online training courses has been specifically developed to provide cost effective online training delivery solution for the NHS. Each of the e-learning modules can be run within our own Learning management System as part of a dedicated training solution or can be hosted within an organisation's own system. These products have all been developed in close partnership with NHS professionals.
 
NHS Breast Screening Training

Health Enterprise East
NHS Innovations East run free training events to help NHS staff from a variety of disciplines to acquire new skills, many of which can be used when promoting or progressing new ideas.

Northern Ireland Medical and Dental Training Agency (NIMDTA)
The Northern Ireland Medical and Dental Training Agency was established as a Special Agency with effect from April 2004.  It replaced the former Northern Ireland Council for Postgraduate Medical and Dental Education. The Agency is accountable to the DHSSPS for the performance of its functions and to the general public for ensuring that doctors and dentists are effectively trained to provide patients with the highest standards of care.

This site is for anyone working in health, social care and well-being across the NHS, local authorities, the voluntary, and the private sector. The site allows you to access a broad range of learning materials for personal use or for teaching purposes in order to help everyone expand their public health knowledge.

This site provides:

  • an online public health textbook organised in relation to the Faculty of Public Health Part A syllabus but it is also of benefit for anyone aiming to increase their public health competencies
  • e-learning modules in epidemiology, health information, and statistics at practitioner and specialist levels which are accredited for CPD
  • a range of interactive learning modules in the form of audio podcasts with animated PowerPoint slides and supporting video components, Q&As, and further resources.

Health Protection Agency Professional Training
Our training programmes, based on the expertise of our staff, prepare and support individuals and organisations involved in protecting people from  infectious disease, chemical, poison or radiation hazards, and from new and emerging threats, including new strains of disease or bioterrorist attack.

NHS Centre for Smoking Cessation and Training
Online assessment and training resources; a forum through which services can share information; news of developments; a channel for two-way communication between the Centre and the services; a wide range of resources useful to the services.

Microsoft NHS Resource Centre 
In the e-learning section you can get free access to a huge selection of online IT training courses covering a range of software, from Microsoft Office to technical IT professional training. Complete exercises at work or from home at your own pace, and choose to take advantage of exam and certification facilities via your nearest IT Academy. 

Continuing Professional Development for Screening Strategy
The UK NSC education and training strategy provides a framework to assist in the development of education and training plans, establishing priorities and maximising sustainability. The strategy aims to develop, facilitate and evaluate screening education and training led by the UK NSC's Director of Programmes' Office.

PHORUS 
Project PHORUS is part of an intitiative to release open educational resources focused on public health in the Higher Education sector. Funded by HEFCE and supported by JISC and the Higher Education Academy, PHORUS is led by the Health Sciences and Practice Subject Centre working with the Royal Society for Public Health, Bournemouth University and other institutions. It is one of thirty projects across the countries of the UK in an initiative designed to test practical considerations and benefits of providing open educational resources (OER) in Higher Education. We are working together to promote the development of open educational resources in public health, and undertake research into enablers and barriers to the release of resources.

JORUM 
Jorum is a free online service providing access to teaching and learning resources, for teaching and support staff in UK Further and Higher Education Institutions.

Lifelong Learning 
A wide range of information, including basic skills, online learning, further education, higher education, funding for learning, young people, post-16, older learners.
